Development Tools

Many companies offer development tools. The industry leaders in commercial software, such as Microsoft and Apple, provide speech-enabling development tools for their platforms. Both computer and telephony tools are offered by many of the telecommunications companies, for example, AT&T, Lucent, and Bell Labs. Naturally, IBM, L&H, Philips, and Dragon all offer speech software development tools to provide third-party development that complements their product lines. In addition, there are hundreds of development companies that often work with their own proprietary tools. This section gives an introduction to some of the currently available tools and provides resources for further information.

Microsoft

Microsoft Research (MSR) is a computer science research organization founded by Microsoft Corporation in 1991. They conduct basic and applied research in four areas: interactivity and intelligence, mathematical sciences, programming tools and techniques, and systems and architecture. Their projects include research in user interface design, spoken technology, and natural language.
