Preparing Layered Menus
Layered menus are unique in that they do not require the use of either a simple or advanced overlay map. Instead, each button state is defined by its own separate layer within a multilayered Adobe Photoshop asset. This allows the author to present a higher degree of graphic detail in the representation of button states, including an entirely new screen appearance for the Normal, Selected, and Activated button states. The use of overlay maps differs sharply as overlays are restricted to the appearance of 2-bit shapes as defined in a single overlay layer with a limit of up to three colors.
