SCMO Design and Performance Outcomes
In order to investigate the performance effects of organizational designs, the sample was divided into two types of firms: those with a single or dominant business unit, and those with multiple business units. About 60% of the survey sample respondents (N=178) identified their firms as being single-business or multi-business with one unit dominating revenue. Multi-business firms (N=112) have related or unrelated business units; however, no unit dominates in terms of providing a majority of revenue for the firm.
