9.8. CONDUCT LIVE EVENTS
Live events are real-time sessions that use some combination of chat, virtual response pads, whiteboards, screen sharing, audioconferencing, and videoconferencing. Live events are complex endeavors that require meticulous preparation, management, and follow-up.
9.8.1. Announce the live event
Announce the live event in plenty of time for learners to prepare for the event and to fit it into their busy schedules.
Here is an example of an announcement of a live event. It provides complete details about the event and links to related materials.
Notice how the example above specified the pieces of information required for a live event. Here is a checklist you can use in preparing the announcement of your live event:
Purpose. What exactly will learners get out of attending the event?
Time. When does the event begin and how long does it last? Remember to specify a time zone or use UTC or GMT times. How early should learners log in? Five or ten minutes before starting time are customary.
Place. Where on the Internet or intranet is the event? What is the address of the event host and how do participants enter the event? (Include a hypertext link in the announcement.) Are specific user IDs and passwords necessary?
Required? Is attendance mandatory or optional? How much does the event count toward a final grade?
Tools to be used. Will the event use chat, audio, video, ...
