When you see an avatar in Second Life, you’re viewing the persona that particular resident of SL wants to project—a summary of his interests, personalities, goals, aspirations—the purpose, ultimately, of a cyberlife.
This premise might be hard to grasp, as people often think “game” when looking at cartoon-like, human-shaped figures. Even if you customized that figure and gave it your unique stamp, your brain says that figure can’t possibly be “me.”
