Business integration involves integrating other external, third-party, or legacy applications. After all, this is the promise of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA). Enterprise application integration (EAI) was supposed to achieve this goal, and to some extent it did through creating and using proprietary resource adapter interfaces.
