When I started to collect materials for this book I wanted to be able to offer different options to readers planning on developing and maintaining their portfolios. We can establish goals and review our objectives, but we still have to choose the work that best represents us and update the portfolio often. Because no rules are set in stone, I have suggested some common guidelines or points that design–tech professionals need to think about. In this chapter, I provide input from two of my colleagues and add my own “teaching points” to help explain the planning and development process.
