3. Working the Salesforce Data APIs

As mentioned in Chapter 2, Salesforce is an API First company, and hence has quite a few APIs.1 It has APIs for working with data, interacting with chatter, streaming, viewing and modifying metadata, and even for creating your own custom APIs. So, of course, the way we migrate data to Salesforce, or integrate external systems with Salesforce, is via the APIs. The APIs with which we are primarily concerned are as follows:
