If we were to Google¹ “What are best practices?” we will find an answer similar to “commercial or professional procedures that are accepted or prescribed as being correct or most effective.”

But, we are left wondering why “are [they] accepted or prescribed as being correct or most effective[?]” If we then Google for specific best practices (such as Salesforce data migration best practices), we’ll get (often conflicting) lists of procedures and recommendations of things to do with minimal explanation as to why.
