This EISA factor measures your ability to:

  • Understand your own emotions

  • Stay attuned to the emotions of others

  • Demonstrate empathy

  • Differentiate between emotions

Perceiving is the first of the five EISA emotional intelligence competencies. Underlying all other competencies, perceiving is a person's awareness of his or her own emotions, and a recognition and understanding of the emotions of others.

People with strong perceiving skills have a vocabulary for emotions that goes beyond happy, mad, sad, and glad. They appreciate that each individual has a unique emotional response to any situation. Those who are skilled in perceiving are often called intuitive, ...
