6.4. DEVELOPMENTAL RELATIONSHIPS

Relationships, both on and off the job, are central to development. Everyone has known a boss, a mentor, a coach, a peer, an advisor, a role model who influenced his or her thinking about leadership or about what an effective leader does and how an effective leader behaves (some role models are examples of what not to do as leaders).
