7.1. THINKING ABOUT IMPLEMENTATION

We've been using the ACS model (see Chapter 1) to organize your thinking in relation to several important aspects of a leadership development process (see Figure 7.1). The elements of ACS increase the chances that a developmental experience will have an impact on leaders. ACS motivates people to focus their attention and efforts on learning, growth, and change. It can also be used to think about issues related to implementation.

When we ask participants and clients what gets in the way of implementation, they frequently cite reasons like the following organizational issues:

  • Support for the development initiative wanes after the "kick-off" phase.

  • The development initiative is not integrated with other talent ...
