The Power of the Shell
On UNIX operating systems, the command line interface is tremendously powerful and useful. It is great for building processes that “do stuff” with text. Since most of the workflow data structures we want to create are based around creating or manipulating a textual file, this makes UNIX an excellent choice for building processors for XML and other text files.
The UNIX style of scripting is available on Windows if you install the Microsoft UNIX services add-on.
