Wrapping FTP Transfers in a Script

We frequently need to move files from one machine to another. That’s easy when the file systems on the remote machines are shared out and we can mount them locally. That isn’t always possible, sometimes for security reasons and other times because the sharing mechanisms aren’t compatible. Perhaps we are delivering content to a customer’s server.

Moving files around a workflow needs to be done carefully. Avoid moving a file to a target machine that has insufficient space if possible. The sending script might bail out, having transferred an incomplete file and crashed a remote server. It might assume that the ...
