The dictionary definition of the term “sustainable” means “able to be maintained at a certain rate or level.” We increasingly see the use of this as a prefix for many disciplines and sectors—architecture, clothing, tourism, development, and so on. In terms of this book, sustainable energy projects are those that account for three aspects of a project’s impacts: economic, social, and environmental. Given that we are on a path to an energy transition, renewable energy projects are, or should be, sustainable.
