The so-called miracle economies of the Asia-Pacific region are characterised not only by exceptionally high growth rates and successful industrialisation programmes, but also by their relatively equitable distribution of income. It is this combination of growth, structural transformation and equity that makes the Asia-Pacific experience unique.
