At the time of this project I’d wanted for a long time to create some illustrations of exotic animals, living together with humans. One of the ideas I came up with was about a toucan. The initial concept was a toucan in a birdcage, poking his beak out through the gaps between the bars. My intention was to create a sad and slightly cruel story, but with a touch of black humor, because above everything else I wanted the image to be funny.
