Republishing Audiovisual Resources ¹

3.1. Introduction

One of the main challenges of the ASW-HSS project is to link the online audiovisual texts to specific contexts of usage such as training, teaching, research, or even valorizing scientific (or, more widely, cultural) heritage.

As we know, an online audiovisual text does not, in general, necessarily fulfill a particular purpose in its present state. In other words, it is only a potential resource for specific purposes such as educational, scientific, or “communication”. To become a truly relevant resource, it must be subject to a series of procedures for processing and analysis, such as the ones that we have examined in the previous chapters of this book (also see [STO 11a] for further details). These procedures include, for example:

– identifying and (virtually) extracting the segments which are more relevant than others;

– describing and indexing using description models which are closer to the needs and expectations of the target audience;

– annotating (i.e. producing comments of various kinds) and recontextualizing it in an intellectual reference field of production;

– partially translating it in a “target” language;

– publishing it as a text adapted to its target use.

These different procedures are also used for initial publications, that is, publishing a lato sensu corpus (see [STO 11a]) as well as for different updates, adaptations, “versions”, and other republications. From a purely analytical perspective, ...
