Upon hearing the term “cyber terrorism,” one might think of China, Russia, or even the United States. Frequently, the ability to carry out threatening or harmful acts via the Internet is associated with countries considered to possess sophisticated technology – that is, technology capable of hacking into the security systems of foreign nations. However, such an association overlooks the power of a ubiquitous online tool – social media – namely YouTube videos, heavily utilized by radical groups such as the Afghan Taliban, as well as the more recent terror initiative Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), among other entities.41
