All change triggers insecurity – especially when we have no idea what something is evolving into. The digital revolution has become so pervasive and impacted our world so thoroughly, in such a short amount of time, that in many ways we still trying to make sense of things. The future for digital humans is both exciting and concerning. We are excited by the ready access to knowledge that the Internet provides yet we may be concerned about how much of our children's time is spent on 3D gaming platforms. It is stressful when we are unable to see what is going on all around us, but at the same time we are seeing things we never knew existed. It offers freedoms we have not had before. We can do less tedious work and be more creative. We can connect with each other and travel more. Yet on the other hand, jobs are at threat from digital automation and our role as humans in this new digital society is unclear. Will we have friendly artificial intelligence or robots that threaten our existence? The shift to smartphones, texting, digital banking, and online dating sites have become so normalized we cannot imagine the world we used to inhabit.
