In this chapter we will look at applications of DSP. These can be divided into two classes. The first class consists of applications that could be implemented using ordinary analog techniques, but where the use of digital signal processing increases the performance considerably. The second class of applications are those that require the use of digital signal processing and cannot be built using entirely analog methods. DSP has caused many changes in a broad range of fields, which we will cover briefly in this chapter. Each of these fields has developed its own DSP technology, with its own pertinent techniques and algorithms.
