Chapter 3. DSP System General Model

Definitions

We have covered some details of analog and digital interfacing in the last chapter. Now let's now put together an entire DSP system model. First, we will define some terms you will encounter in this chapter. An anti-aliasing filter limits the bandwidth of any incoming signal to the system. A smoothing filter is used on the output of the DAC in a DSP system, to smooth out the stairstep pattern of the DAC's output. Harvard architecture is a common architecture for DSP processors; it splits the data path and the instruction path into two separate streams.
