Error-Correction Coding
Abstract
This chapter throws light on the topics of correction coding and decoding. It is a complex domain that has its own mathematics set. This introduction bypasses the math and first explains simple block codes, using examples. The concept of coding distance is explained. Next a popular convolutional code, named after its famous inventor Andrew Viterbi, is explained in detail, with examples. Concepts such as coding gain and Shannon theorem are also introduced.
