The latest mobile communication technology following CDMA wireless systems is naturally called fourth generation, or “4G.” The goals of a fourth generation system are yet even higher data capabilities, to be able to support voice, Internet, streaming video, and other services. Known as orthogonal frequency division multiplexing, or OFDM, it utilizes a completely different technology than 3G. OFDM has also been used in broadcast systems and for wireless LAN (Wi-Fi).
