With apologies to Charles Dickens, in this context, this quote more appropriately deals with the love-hate relationship I have with keeping track of movie clips in the form of digital media files.

Yeah, digital media files have the virtual footprint of a dotted line, which keeps your desk pretty free of tape clutter. But not all messes are visible, and digital movie files are a prime example: They create virtual chaos within the hallowed halls of your hard drive.

Movie footage has always presented organizational problems due to its sheer volume and the necessity of logging of each scene.
