5: Digital twin model creation of double mass spring damper system

Abstract

This chapter guides the reader in developing a Digital Twin model for a double mass spring damper system. This developed model can be used to perform Off-Board Diagnostics on the position and velocity of the masses when a certain force is applied to the system. This model has been developed using MATLAB, Simulink®, SimscapeTM and Simscape Mechanics. The hardware parameters are the specifications for the spring, mass and damper. Simscape blocks like the Ideal Force Block let us replicate a force input whether that might be a step input, an impulse or a time variant one and Ideal Translational Motion Sensor blocks let you sense speed and velocity of the mass.
