“Do I need a deck, or is using the camera OK?” This is probably the most frequently asked question about Firewire and Final Cut Express, by new users and experienced editors alike. One of the grandest accomplishments of the DV revolution is that for such a small amount of money, you can get a turnkey, or complete video editing, solution that also includes a high-quality three-chip camera. This is about a third of the price of a system with similar functionality a few years ago, minus the camera! So it’s a pretty good deal all around.
