Like any other profession, a photographer needs a place to work and the right equipment to get the job done. In the following sections, I go over each tool you need as well as specifications to look for when making your purchases. I also outline how to set up a workspace that lends itself to productivity.

With the advance of digital technology, wedding photographers these days have it much easier than those who worked with film in that you no longer have to set up a whole darkroom to process all your pictures. Instead, you can set up a “digital darkroom” with a computer, photo-editing software, a card reader, and an external hard drive.

A lot of debate takes place among photographers about whether a Mac or PC is better, or a laptop or desktop. But in the end, I believe those issues come down to a matter of preference and that you can accomplish your goals with either type, as long as the computer you choose has the right kind of hardware to handle the intensive editing programs and quantity of large files.
