Getting the Key Images

After you establish an organized plan for taking charge (see the previous section), you’re ready to dive in to the formal portrait segment of the day. In this section, I go over essential images to take for each type of portrait a wedding presents and explain how to capture them effectively and naturally.

remember.eps Keep in mind that the shot lists I give you here are just guidelines; as the artist, you have the freedom to expand it and be creative!

As you begin the formal portraits that I describe in the following sections, I encourage you to have fun. This part of the day is where you have the most interaction with your clients. Talk and laugh with the couple while you’re setting up poses, and share their excitement to be joining their lives together. The portraits also allow you to show off your artistry, so let your creativity shine!

remember.eps Remember depth of field when shooting portraits. You need to consider which apertures you should use to ensure that all your subjects are in focus and to create the look you want. I provide some tips in the following sections, but be sure to check out Chapter 3 for more details.
