EXERCISES WITH A TEXT

 

These exercises develop particular skills and will be useful later when you have to deal with common problems that emerge during rehearsals or shooting. They are done in the moment in front of the class or group.

TEXTS

Because you should learn the rehearsal process without ever having to doubt the quality of the writing, it's smart at this stage to use a good one-act theater piece rather than your own writing. It won't be cinematic, but in this phase of your work you aim to discover the potential of text and cast, so this doesn't matter. Use something short so discussion can be narrowly (and therefore deeply) focused. Avoid comedy because playing it begs for a live audience, and you don't want your actors playing ...
