WORKING WITH MUSIC
In extreme youth, I was an assistant editor on a dozen feature films. Each time, music would take us, jaded from living for months with the project, on a whole new journey into the story and its characters. This was always a miracle of revelation.
SPOTTING SESSION
Spotting for music is the process of viewing the fine cut, deciding where it needs music and where that music will come from. Some may be popular music from a time or place that is used for atmosphere. If so, its copyright will have to be acquired. The rest of the music will need a film composer, about which more later.
