SCRIPT ANALYSIS AND DEVELOPMENT
The purpose of script development is threefold: first to reveal, through script analysis, the essential dramatic foundations of a work including its structure, character, story logic, and theme; second, to use creative intelligence to address weaknesses or missed opportunities; third, to make advantageous adjustments according to the creative assets one acquires along the way (such as talent, crew, locations, etc.). This is all part of the director’s job. Only by sustained and methodical script development can the director fully inhabit every aspect of the story, explore all its potential, and capitalize on the cinema’s strengths.
