Introduction
The Fukushima nuclear disaster, in 2011, destroyed a large number of farmhouses and fishing trawlers and also led to widespread radioactive contamination of soil, crops, and marine areas. It started fresh debates all over the world about the reliance of countries on nuclear power. The accident offered lessons to many countries, in general, and India, in particular. India is working on a plan to augment its existing nuclear power generation to 60,000 MWs by 2030 from a meager 3,500 MWs at present.
