Her biography reads like a novel; her iconic knitted jersey “wrap dress,” first introduced in 1973, is now in the collection of the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She owned the title of princess when, at the University of Geneva, she met and married Prince Egon von Furstenberg. In the 1970s, after a separation from the prince, she was known for her breezy glamour and jet-set lifestyle. Her figure-hugging fashion swept the Studio 54 and Park Avenue crowd. Many years later she gave up the single life and agreed to marry longtime companion and media mogul Barry Diller as a birthday present.
