This project may be used as a very first introduction to lighting actors and their stage environment. However, since it explores such fundamentals, it is also of value to students who already have acquired some basic understanding of light.

Objectives

To explore the effect of light from different angles on (a) objects and (b) actors; to explore the interaction between light for actors and light for their stage environment.

Setting

If possible the exercise should be set within a neutral surround of black masking as indicated on the plan (Figure P.2). The scenic object should be a simple three-dimensional piece with scope for modelling: a half-rounded column is ideal (Figure P.3).
