To explore the problems of providing enough visibility for the audience to understand the action, while maintaining the atmospheric credibility of a moonlit garden which is sufficiently dark and shadowy for mistaken identities to be feasible.
The project is based on the final act of Mozart’s opera The Marriage of Figaro. While it is possible to carry out the project from the information given here, a preliminary study of the opera is highly recommended. This should include a detailed analysis of the last act, paying particular attention to the mistaken identities. (The available recordings are in the original Italian, but are normally boxed with English translations of the libretto.) ...
