Inverter technology has been slow to advance as related to the capacity of handling power, because it is an electronic technology. The maximum power rating is at the moment 500 KVA. For higher capacity requirements single units of 500 KVA are assembled in parallel. It remains to be seen whether this comparative disadvantage will be a fatal flaw in the advancement of solar technology to the same level as wind farms in the renewable energy arena. Presently higher rating units up to 1000 KVA are being manufactured to suit the penetration of photovoltaic (PV) systems.
