Chapter 3. Concept Topics
Task topics might be the core of your technical information, but without effective concepts to support those tasks, users of your product, service, or technology wouldn’t get far. You can write excellent task topics for, say, how to fly small aircraft, but if the pilot doesn’t understand basic concepts such as lift, drag, and thrust, let’s just hope that pilot and plane never leave the hangar.
Concept topics typically explain or define some idea. They often include background information that users might need to understand before they work with a product or start a task.
Use concept topics to:
• Describe a system, product, or solution
• Outline a process
• Introduce tools and technology
• Explain features, components, ...
