DITA maps are the glue that binds your topics together, the driver for producing your output, and the information path for your users to follow. Well-structured DITA maps are vital to the usability of online and print documentation because they are the basis for navigating and linking content.
A well-structured DITA map can help users to quickly find the information that they need, provide a task flow that supports the use of your product, and can even provide a few shortcuts for writers. A DITA map is an XML file that you use to organize your DITA topics. Use DITA maps to:
