Proclaiming the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion for your organization without a strategic plan is like packing for a vacation but having no place to go.

In the early days of DEI consulting, organizations commonly spent thousands of dollars on DEI training for their employees. Senior leadership attended only abbreviated sessions, if any. After a while, employees who had taken the training would move on to other organizations, and new employees would then take the same training. It was a continuous cycle. However, the training never resulted in any real organizational change. Why? Because the training was just a stand-alone program, not part of a strategic plan for change.
