Although their fathers had been lifelong friends, Victoria Bruce and Karin Hayes did not meet until shortly before they began their first film, The Kidnapping of Ingrid Betancourt. At the time, Victoria was a science writer with a master's degree in geology, and the author of No Apparent Danger (HarperCollins, 2001), about a tragic expedition into a volcano in Colombia.
