In this chapter, we’ll be going through my sketchbooks to take a look at different types of subject matter and approaches to sketching. The examples shown here go from simple to complex and are a mix of sketches on location, from personal photo reference, and from memory or imagination.

Let’s start with subject matter you can use as a reference without even leaving the house. To practice sketching from direct observation, we can look for specific subjects to start with.
