Step One When drawing two similar dogs, like these two Dachshunds, it is important to identify and translate the differences between them. You don’t want to end up with a drawing of two dogs that look identical. With this in mind, I work on both dogs simultaneously. I begin by marking out the general shape of the dogs using circles to represent the bodies and heads. Then I add rough shapes for the muzzles, ears, and legs. I want the two dogs to be looking at the same thing, but again I don’t want them to look like the same image duplicated, so I slightly lower the muzzle of the dog on the right.
