HATCHLING

A hatchling is a baby dragon—not to be confused with a dragonet, which is a miniature adult dragon. A group of dragon eggs is called a “clutch.”

Step One I start by sketching the oval of the hatchling’s egg. Although I know most of this shape will change, it helps me achieve the right proportions by drawing the entire shape. I use a 2H pencil to create the form of the hatchling with basic shapes. This sketch acts as a “blueprint” to ensure a plausible interaction between the hatchling and its environment.
