DRAWING FROM PHOTOS

Pets are always on the move, which means these captivating subjects can be challenging to draw from life. To capture a fleeting pose—as well as the lighting and color of the moment—you may choose to work from photos. Always snap photographs from different angles and under different lighting to give yourself plenty of choices for your drawing—or use your artistic license to combine several references to complete one drawing. Don’t ever feel as if you have to be a slave to any given reference; artistic license allows you to alter the composition—or even the subject itself—however you please!
