Artist and educator John Asaro was raised in southern California where he attended the ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena. Like Andrew Loomis, he also attended the Art Students League of New York (albeit much later). After a 12-year career in commercial art, he moved on to pursue fine art, as well as returned to the ArtCenter College of Design to teach figurative painting.
