Whether, like Romeo, you feel yours is the “unworthiest hand” that gives a rough touch to facial features, or you have a bit more confidence, the Asaro method will help you better frame the lips of your portraits. As with the eyes and nose, it is essential that you understand the basic planal structure of the lips so that you can give yourself the best chance at drawing them accurately. Once you identify the lip planes, you can get on with the artistic dance of hatching, blending, shading, and retrieving.
