Shapes have many functions to perform for you. One important function is to identify objects or parts of objects. Shapes, singly, are used to represent objects like a box or a banana, and collectively to distinguish complex structures like the human body.

Another important use for shape is to create feelings and to incite certain desired responses. We are constantly faced with symbols that evoke immediate responses. An arrow shape suggests direction.
