132 Deciphering and Defining Gestures
When I sit down to write these things my mind goes flitting about like a butterfly. There are so many different approaches to drawing. When you are drawing, your mind has to focus in and out of the many aspects of drawing. You have to keep your mind flexible so that you don’t hone in on one or two of them and get stuck there, to the neglect or oversight of others, especially the story behind the drawing. Of course it’s difficult enough to just isolate one thing and draw that well, let alone cover all bases. One our biggest enemies is habit. Do you recall what anonymous said in the last handout? He (or is it a she?) said: “If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always gotten.”
