28 The Importance of Sketching
Sketching is a way of awakening and sharpening our awareness. If our awareness is sluggish, some of the impressions we receive through our senses, which are so important to drawing, will be overlooked. Like watching a sunset with dark glasses on. While we are sketching, our sensibilities should be honed in on the meaning of, the story behind the pose. Sensibility means, in part, “The power of responding to stimuli; the ability to feel. The capacity for being affected emotionally or intellectually …receptiveness to impression, ” especially first impressions.
